Online application upload requirements
During the SSC CGL online registration, you upload two files: your passport-size photo and your signature. Both have strict size ranges the portal enforces automatically — too small or too large will both be rejected.
| File | Size range | Format | Recommended dimensions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Passport-size photo | 20KB – 50KB | JPG only | 200×230 pixels |
| Signature | 10KB – 20KB | JPG only | 140×60 pixels |
Documents needed at document verification (DV) stage
After clearing all SSC CGL tiers, shortlisted candidates are called for Document Verification. Bring originals and self-attested photocopies of each document below.

How to prepare your SSC CGL photo (20KB–50KB)
1Take or source the photo
Use a recent photo (within 6 months) on a white background. Full face visible, neutral expression, no glasses. Plain background compresses better than a detailed one.
2Crop to the right aspect ratio
SSC recommends 200×230 pixels (portrait orientation). Use Image Resizer to crop and resize to these dimensions if your photo is a different size.
3Set to 35KB using Photo Size Fixer
Open Photo Size Fixer, upload the cropped photo, and set the target to 35KB. This puts you comfortably within the 20–50KB range. Download and verify before uploading.
How to prepare your SSC CGL signature (10KB–20KB)
1Sign on clean white paper
Use a black or blue ballpoint pen. Sign clearly — the same signature you will use for official documents. Avoid extremely fine pens that produce thin lines which look unclear at small file sizes.
2Photograph in good light
Photograph just the signature on white paper in natural daylight. Crop tightly — only the signature should be visible, no extra paper margins.
3Resize to 15KB
Open Photo Size Fixer or Signature Fixer, upload the signature image, and set the target to 15KB. This hits the 10–20KB range with safe margin on both sides.

Open Photo Size Fixer →Common mistakes that cause SSC CGL rejections
Photo below 20KB: A heavily compressed photo may fall below the minimum. Target 30–40KB, not the smallest possible. Both ends of the range are enforced.
Coloured background: SSC requires a white background. A blue or grey studio background will cause rejection at DV even if the upload succeeded. Use Remove Background and replace with white if needed.
Uploading PNG instead of JPG: The portal requires JPG format explicitly. PNG uploads are rejected regardless of file size.
OBC certificate from last year: OBC Non-Creamy Layer certificates must be for the current financial year. A certificate from 2023–24 may be rejected for a 2025–26 DV. Renew before document verification.
EWS certificate mismatch: EWS certificates are only valid for the financial year they are issued. If your certificate is from the previous year, get a new one from your Tehsildar before DV.
