Quick Answer

Your Aadhaar PDF password is:

First 4 letters of name (CAPS) + Birth year

Example: Name = Rahul Kumar, Born = 1995 -> Password = RAHU1995

All Aadhaar PDF Password Formats

UIDAI uses this exact format for all e-Aadhaar PDFs downloaded from their website. Find your format in the table below:

Name ExampleBirth YearPassword
Rahul Kumar1995RAHU1995
Priya Sharma1998PRIY1998
Mohammed Ali2001MOHA2001
Anita1990ANIT1990
Ali Khan1988ALIK1988
Om Prakash2000OM P2000

Rule: Always use the name exactly as it appears on your Aadhaar card - including spaces, initials, and special characters. The system is case-sensitive (must be CAPITALS).

How to Open Aadhaar PDF on Any Device

1On Android Phone

Open the PDF in Google Drive or Adobe Acrobat Reader (free). Tap the PDF file -> it will ask for a password -> enter your format (e.g. RAHU1995) -> tap OK. The PDF will open.

2On iPhone

Open the PDF in the Files app or Adobe Acrobat. Enter your password when prompted. Note: iOS Safari may not show the password prompt - always use Files app or Acrobat on iPhone.

3On Windows PC

Open in Adobe Acrobat Reader or Chrome browser. Chrome will show a password box directly when you open the PDF - just type your password and press Enter.

4On Mac

Open in Preview (the default Mac PDF viewer). It will prompt for a password when you double-click the file. Enter your format and click Unlock.

How to Remove the Password Permanently

Once you know the password, you can remove it permanently so you never have to type it again. This is especially useful before compressing the PDF for government portal uploads (UPSC, SSC, Passport portals all reject password-protected PDFs).

Common Mistakes - Why Wrong Password Error Appears

Using lowercase letters: The password is case-sensitive. RAHU1995 works. rahu1995 does not work.

Using only 3 letters: Always use exactly 4 letters (or all letters if your name has fewer than 4). RAH1995 will not work - it must be RAHU1995.

Wrong year: Use only your birth year - 4 digits. Do not use DDMMYYYY or any other date format. Just the year: RAHU1995.

Name with prefix: If your Aadhaar shows "Mr. Rahul Kumar", use RAHU (ignore the Mr. prefix).

Using middle name: Use only the first name, not the middle or last name. For "Rahul Vijay Kumar", the password starts with RAHU not VIJA or KUMA.

Still not working? Go to myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in and download a fresh copy of your e-Aadhaar. Older downloads may use slightly different password formats - the fresh download always uses the current standard format.

Open the file in Google Drive or Adobe Acrobat Reader (both free). When the app asks for a password, enter your format - first 4 letters of name in caps + birth year. Tap OK and the PDF will open immediately.
Can I remove the password from my Aadhaar PDF?
Yes. Use PDF Vault's Unlock PDF tool - go to pdf-vault.com, click Unlock PDF under PDF Tools, upload your Aadhaar, enter your password, and download the unlocked version. Your file is processed in your browser and never uploaded to any server.
